Description

The Ebbingekwartier at the former Ciboga site in Groningen is an area that was originally home to a gasworks. The chimney and the warehouse are still there; the warehouse is now a restaurant. The neighbourhood consists of various types of housing that refer to the gasworks, such as a boiler house and a warehouse building. Because the Ebbingekwartier is built on top of an underground car park, it is necessary to work with a light construction system. In addition, the dwellings must be earthquake-proof, which is why all the houses and flats have been realised with a timber-frame construction. For the facades, we supplied Siberian larch in four different colours. This fits in perfectly with the industrial character of the area.
